Turning Pages is an annual journal showcasing bright voices from around the world. It features creative and original writing in English – including short fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and drama – as well as drawings, art projects, and related genres by students, academics, and writers. It is produced at the Chair of English Literatures at the English Department of Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany, and is the first journal of its kind.

Turning Pages can be understood both literally and metaphorically. It suggests that we must turn the page, demonstrating that literature and art have something meaningful to say in uncertain times. Literature and art can be interventionist by showing us how we can use our own imagination for the better. Therefore, Turning Pages invites readers not only to literally browse through a variety of texts and turn pages, but to reflect on situations, events, experiences, or emotions that may 'turn the page' for individuals or communities.

The seventh issue of Turning Pages includes a variety of inspiring and thought-provoking poems and stories, along with striking photographic perspectives from Chemnitz and around the world. As Chemnitz celebrates its role as European Capital of Culture 2025, some of the featured photographs or artworks were created in this context – most notably the image on the cover. As in previous issues, the contributions range from national to international, with texts by both first-time and more experienced writers. They offer reflections on personal history, family dynamics, city life, the struggle of flight and survival, life in outer space – or simply life caught in the fangs of the daily grind. Altogether, the issue illustrates how the present moment is filled with both challenges and unexpected joys.
